Pelvic + Abdominal Rehabilitation

Simple solutions to a common problem.

Children and teens who experience difficulties with bladder or bowel control often feel embarrassed. But they’re not alone — many kids suffer from serious medical conditions that make sleepovers with friends impossible and result in excessive laundry at home.

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, about 5 million children aged six and older wet the bed. By the late teens, up to three percent of children experience bedwetting.

The good news? There often are simple solutions. Mary Free Bed Kids offers pelvic floor therapy, a non-invasive and effective way to help kids and families overcome this and other stressful and emotional conditions.

What We Do

Pediatric pelvic floor therapy is a treatment approach to help kids manage conditions that occur when the pelvic floor muscles don’t work well. Our physical therapists have specialized training in treating pediatric patients with pelvic floor issues.

Our goal is to empower children and adolescents with tools that give them greater control over their bowel and bladder, including how to manage symptoms and improve strength, mobility and function.

Common treatments include:

  • Biofeedback technology (surface electromyography or sEMG) to train and re-educate the pelvic floor muscles
  • Behavioral strategies to decrease urinary and bowel symptoms
  • Education on dietary modifications for bladder and bowel retraining
  • Manual therapy techniques to reduce soft tissue restrictions
  • Individualized home exercise program for symptom management
  • Instruction on appropriate posture and body mechanics for correct toileting
