Mary Free Bed at Sparrow rehabilitation unit debuts renovations, private patient rooms
Lansing, Mich. – The first phase of renovations and expansion of the Mary Free Bed at Sparrow rehabilitation unit is complete, with 30 private patient rooms open today.
Mary Free Bed at Sparrow is a joint venture between Sparrow Hospital and Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital. The project will eventually expand the inpatient rehabilitation unit at Sparrow to 40 private patient rooms and two state-of-the-art therapy gymnasiums. The project makes it possible for all adult inpatient rehabilitation services to be conveniently located on the same hospital floor.
The remainder of the project is expected to be complete by early 2016.
“We are truly transforming care for our patients,” said Kris Tennant, Director of Mary Free Bed at Sparrow. “Our compassionate team is committed to restoring hope and freedom and we know this wonderfully healing environment will help.”
The unit provides intensive neurological, orthopedic and stroke rehab care.
Mary Free Bed at Sparrow also features a full-size Chevrolet Traverse so patients can practice getting in and out of a vehicle and loading groceries and assistive devices like walkers or wheelchairs.
General Motors generously donated the vehicle. Staff from Feldman’s Bout Kouts Chevrolet gave their time and supplies to disassemble the Traverse, transport and reassemble it inside Sparrow Hospital.
Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital has served the needs of children and adults since 1891 and today offers the most comprehensive rehabilitation services in Michigan. The Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Network includes relationships with leading acute care hospitals in Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Lansing and Muskegon.
