ABVI Announces New CEO to Lead Historic Organization
The Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (ABVI) has been serving the low vision and blind community in West Michigan since 1913. This month, the organization took a new step in supporting their clients by announcing Timothy Tuthill as its new president and CEO.
ABVI helps clients by providing low vision services, rehabilitation, education, and vision aids. The team of expert, low-vision professionals is dedicated to ensuring every individual continues to thrive in a sighted world.
Tuthill joined ABVI after recently working as the Center Manager for Care Resources PACE of Kent County. With an interdisciplinary team, he coordinated growing community-based services for older adults living in Kent County. Prior to that, he served as a director at Clark Retirement Community.
Tim holds a Bachelor of Science in psychology from Grand Valley State University and a Master of Social Work from Michigan State University. He also received his Master of Divinity from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.
“I am excited to work on new ways to help, empower, and advocate for, blind and visually impaired individuals,” said Tuthill. “Working alongside Mary Free Bed, we’ll continue our long-standing tradition of service in the community with growth and stability.”
In 2020, ABVI became an independent subsidiary of Mary Free Bed, a world leader in rehabilitative care. Both non-profit organizations share a similar mission of restoring hope and maintaining independence for those they serve. The joining of forces has helped to enhance offerings and experiences for individuals at both entities.
