Chaffee brothers face challenges, celebrate triumphs together
UPDATE: Good Housekeeping published a story about the Chaffee brothers’ journey on Nov. 20, 2015. Click here to read the story.
Brothers Adam and Matt Chaffee stick together through thick and thin.
That support system and brotherly bond will be crucial as the two adjust to a new life in the coming months.
Twenty-three-year-old Adam sustained a paralyzing spinal cord injury in a diving accident July 25. He graduated Thursday from Mary Free Bed after months of intense inpatient rehabilitation.
Matt, 25, sustained a paralyzing spinal cord injury in a November 2014 motorcycle accident. He had been living with Adam in Kalamazoo prior to Adam’s accident. The two will now share an accessible apartment in downtown Grand Rapids.
The Chaffee brothers’ unique story drew national media attention as support for the family poured in from around the country.
A GoFundMe account for Adam and Matt continues to receive donations. Funds will help offset the cost of things like an accessible van and medical supplies.
