Mary Free Bed Brings Halloween to the Hospital for Patients and Families
This year’s Halloween event Mary Free Bed was an eerie-sistable success!
The Mary Free Bed Kids inpatient team transformed the hospital’s outdoor therapy garden into the “Mary Cemetery.” The haunted “scare-apy” garden was filled with smiles and screams to those who dared to enter.
In true trunk-or-treat style, staff and community members ‘dressed up’ over 30 cars – each of them arriving fashionably in various Halloween and harvest themes. Trunks were filled with decorations and treats for both the kids and “kids at heart.”
Patients and families participated in yard games, enjoyed spooky music and were also treated to hayrides! A Halloween-themed sensory table was available for younger ghouls and goblins. Coffee and donuts helped fuel the party, and prizes were awarded to for the most creative costume.

This event was hosted by the Mary Free Bed Kids inpatient team and made possible with support from the Mary Free Bed Guild and the Mary Free Bed Foundation. Thanks to SpartanNash for generously sponsoring our donut and coffee bar. We also want to add a special recognition to the Rick Nyquist, Jeff Ansley and Todd Larson on the MFB staff for their fa-boo-lous work in maintenance and housekeeping. And a huge thanks to our spooktacular staff and community members working behind the scenes to make this event successful for our patients and their families. Happy Halloween!
