Grand Rapids, Mich. – Michael S. Jakubowski, M.D., has been named chief medical officer for Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital. He assumes the role immediately.
A member of the Mary Free Bed medical staff since 1987, Dr. Jakubowski is board certified in both physical medicine and rehabilitation as well as internal medicine. Respected in the community for his expertise, he has served as medical director of rehabilitative services at Metro Health, was elected twice by his peers to be Mary Free Bed’s chief of staff and, most recently, was named medical director of the Mary Free Bed Spine Center.
“Mary Free Bed has an astounding history and history is repeating itself,” Jakubowski said. “I’m excited to be part of a team that is partnering with many superb healthcare systems to make transformational changes in the manner rehabilitation services are delivered.”
Dr. Jakubowski attended the University of Michigan Medical School. He completed his physical medicine and rehabilitation residency at the University of Michigan Health System and his internal medicine residency at Henry Ford Hospital.
Dr. Jakubowski replaces John F. Butzer, M.D., who retired earlier this year to launch the John F. Butzer Center for Research & Innovation at Mary Free Bed.
