Mary Free Bed Partnering with Virginia Hospital to Bring Expert Rehabilitation to Region

Mary Free Bed is expanding its rehabilitation services to a new region with the announcement of a partnership with Valley Health. Valley Health is a not-for-profit health system based in Winchester, Virginia, serving communities in northern Virginia and parts of West Virginia and Maryland.

The Valley Health system includes six hospitals and more than 70 medical practices, centers and clinics in the area. Mary Free Bed’s new partnership will be with Valley Health’s Winchester Medical Center and its Inpatient Rehabilitation program.

A joint operating agreement between the two organizations begins effective March 3, 2024, and 60 current staff members will become Mary Free Bed employees. The Mary Free Bed leadership team will manage the day-to-day operations, performance, processes and procedures, and work closely with Valley Health leadership.

The new partnership will expand access to high quality acute rehabilitation services in the region. The collaboration will align operational and clinical practices and increase clinicians’ skill levels to service even more complex patients.

“We are excited to welcome Mary Free Bed and add their expertise to our rehabilitation operations,” said Mark Nantz, president and chief executive officer at Valley Health. “Both organizations share a strong commitment to creating excellent patient experiences and this strategic partnership further supports Valley Health’s mission to serve our community by improving health.”

While there are many miles between these two new partners, the history and missions of these organizations couldn’t be more closely aligned. Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital and Valley Health Winchester Medical Center are both not-for-profit hospitals having served their communities for more than 120 years. The organizations share a dedication to improving access to high quality care for all patients.

“When working with other health care systems, who you partner with is extremely important,” said Bruce Brasser, chief operating officer at Mary Free Bed. “When we both put our patients and their recoveries first, we can help make our community healthier, together.”

This joint operating agreement will be known as Valley Health Winchester Medical Center Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation and was developed out of a working relationship with the Mary Free Bed Advisory Group. The Advisory Group is dedicated to building national partnerships and consulting with organizations that share the same value and mission as Mary Free Bed.
