Mary Free Bed Selects Epic for New Electronic Medical Records Service
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – It’s going to be Epic, say Mary Free Bed clinicians and IT professionals. Leaders from Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital have signed a 10-year agreement with Covenant HealthCare officials to extend their electronic medical record (EMR) software called Epic to Mary Free Bed. Electronic medical records are the digital version of paper charts in clinician offices and hospitals. Mary Free Bed becomes the fifth hospital in Grand Rapids to have the Epic EMR, enabling greater continuity of patient information and collaboration across the medical community.
Covenant HealthCare is a joint partner in the Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Network and has been using Epic for 12 years with its multiple affiliated hospital sites. The partnership between Covenant and Mary Free Bed helps both organizations gain scale and leverage each other’s strengths.
The new EMR implementation already has begun and is expected to take 18-24 months to be fully operational, with phase one beginning in Mary Free Bed’s fiscal year 2021 and phase two beginning in FY22. Epic also enables Mary Free Bed to more easily participate in statewide efforts to create value-based care with other network hospitals, such as Sparrow Health Systems in Lansing and Bronson Healthcare in Kalamazoo as well as Metro Health University of Michigan Health and Mercy Health in Grand Rapids.
Mary Free Bed is looking for new and upcoming talent to be a part of the Epic EMR implementation. A recruitment event will be held Nov. 7-8 in Grand Rapids. Follow the link here for more information.
