Mary Free Bed’s campus is designed exclusively for rehabilitation, and we’ve made it as un-hospital-like as possible. Bright, cheerful colors create an uplifting healing environment, and we offer a mix of quiet and lively spaces to relax, whether you’re an inpatient in our hospital or waiting for an appointment in our one of our outpatient clinics.
Our downtown Grand Rapids campus features a freestanding rehabilitation hospital with 167 private rooms for acute and sub-acute inpatient rehabilitation. Our adjoining spaces house a wide range of outpatient programs and services.

Outdoor spaces
- Gardens around campus include the Courtyard Garden, tucked between the Main Entry and the hospital, and the Therapath Garden on the south corner of campus. The gardens provide healing spaces for patients and visitors.

Patient + Family Accommodations
Private inpatient rooms
Featuring abundant natural light, our spacious private rooms are designed to make you feel at home.
They include a 42-inch television, comfortable seating and storage for your things. There’s a sleeper sofa for a family member to room-in and a large bathroom with a sliding door for easy accessibility.
Our rooms have therapeutic tools, such as a patient lift, and ample space to practice daily living skills. Therapy gyms and social spaces are close by.
Complimentary washers and dryers are available.
The Inn at Mary Free Bed
Loved ones are essential to your recovery and are encouraged to stay close by. Our private patient rooms come equipped with a comfortable sleeper sofa so a family member can stay with you. If you’re from out of town or when an in-room stay isn’t feasible, your admissions coordinator or care manager can help you decide what works best for your family.
The Inn at Mary Free Bed is an affordable and comfortable option for family members of inpatients to consider. Conveniently located in the Mary Ives Hunting Center on the corner of Lafayette Avenue and Wealthy Street, it’s also great for patients who aren’t staying in the hospital or outpatients returning for appointments.
We have a limited number of rooms, so reservations are given on a priority basis to:
• Patients who live more than 40 miles away and are involved in an ongoing program with multiple days of treatment, receive a one-day specialty evaluation or have routine follow-up clinic appointments.
• Outpatients residing more than 40 miles away and are scheduled for early morning or late evening evaluations or treatment, or those being seen for high-frequency therapies.
• Families of inpatients residing more than 40 miles away receiving family education or pediatric families unable to use the Ronald McDonald House of Western Michigan.
• Families of inpatients or outpatients residing more than 80 miles away who are here for services other than family education.
• Pediatric families without other housing resources.
• Mary Free Bed conference speakers or job applicants.
Room features include:
• Spacious, comfortable, fully accessible suites and rooms with flat-screen televisions, wireless Internet access, phone, climate control and room-darkening blinds.
• Universal access includes comfortable seating and tables that raise and lower. Kitchenette with under-counter refrigerator. Open bathroom without threshold to shower that has a mounted seat, grab bars and adjustable showerhead.
• Easily accessible by a hallway connected to the Mary Free Bed Professional Building and a skywalk across Lafayette Avenue to the main hospital and Outpatient Therapy Center.
• Community area with a computer workstation.
