Run for Sight 5K Raises Funds for Visually Impaired
This weekend you can run, walk or handcycle along Michigan’s lakeshore and help raise funds for those who are blind or have low vision. Saturday marks the 18th annual Run for Sight 5K held at the beautiful Pere Marquette Park in Muskegon.
The Run for Sight 5K benefits the Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired. For 111 years, ABVI has been helping individuals with low vision or blindness thrive in a sighted world. Each year, ABVI serves around 1,000 children and adults from across the state, providing programs and assistance for people living with visual impairments or blindness.

New to the event is a 5K handcycle division, welcoming entry level handcyclists. Kids will also have a 1K run to participate in, where all racers receive a t-shirt and medal. Runners and walkers with low vision or blindness are encouraged to participate with volunteer sighted guides that are available.
In 2020, the Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired became an independent subsidiary of Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation. It’s a coming together of two organizations with similar missions, joining forces to enhance services and serve more people with low vision or blindness.
Staff from ABVI helped promote the 5K with interviews on WGVU Radio, and FOX 17. Listen and watch to find out more about the event and services at ABVI.
