Stroke Survivor Competes in Kalamazoo After Winning National Dog Competition

Monica Adair Loves her dogs, “My heart and Soul”. She also has a love for showing her two terriers in competitions. This summer, that love was taken away when she had a stroke.

After her initial recovery, she transferred to Mary Free Bed for intensive stroke rehabilitation, with hopes of getting back in the ring someday. Her goal through her recovery was to hopefully groom her dogs again, and maybe get back to walking and jogging alongside them in a show.

After weeks working hard with her outpatient physical and occupational therapists, that someday came much sooner than expected.

In October, Monica traveled with her two terriers down to Alabama for a national dog show competition. There she won “Best Brace in Show” at the Montgomery County Kennel Club.

After her national success, Monica went on to compete in her home state, at Kalamazoo’s West Michigan Harvest Cluster Dog Show, where she took home another ribbon.
