World champion and Team USA gold-medal winning John Boie will be joining the Mary Free Bed Pacers this season, and this weekend is his first time with the team. Boie is just back from the Para Pan Games in Chile, where Team USA won another gold, and secured their place in the Paris Paralympics in 2024.
John Boie grew up on a farm in Wisconsin, where he sustained an injury when he was just 2 years old. He was introduced to wheelchair basketball when he was 11 years old and has been playing ever since.
“I’m really looking forward to playing this season with the Mary Free Bed Pacers,” said Boie. “I’m thankful to the team to be welcomed with open arms, and I’m excited to compete.”
The Mary Free Bed Invitational Adult Wheelchair Basketball Tournament is presented by CareLinc and hosted by Mary Free Bed’s Wheelchair & Adaptive Sports program. The tournament is free to attend, and the public is encouraged to come and cheer on the athletes.
